  • Cartoons

I am a cartoonist/illustrator by trade, noticer since birth. Humans do the weirdest things. And I’m one of them. Also, our vulnerabilities are endearing and worth honoring. I record what I see and hear and report on culture, politics, mental health, and try to shed a little light on the deeply ordinary.

  • Cats

I was raised by dogs, and later trained by cats.

I’ve had several cats over the years, and currently there’s Desi and Lucy, my studio cats. They mostly sleep on the windowsill or sit in judgment, or clean themselves on my art. Also, where cat humor is concerned, they are definitely my gag writers.

  • Places

Plein air is my happy place. It’s the most mindful activity I know. I’ll go for a hike, the beach, or look out the window, or inside my home. All past and future worries, thoughts, tedium, responsibilities seem to melt away. I am simply there...honoring something beautiful, in the present. And by the end of the session—completely refreshed.

  • People

I love sketching people. After years of practice, striving to work fast to capture gesture and essence, I can occasionally pull off a 5 min sketch that truly works. But mostly they take longer. There are times I need to place them in their setting, especially when traveling.

  • Wildlife

Ok some of these are real animals, and some I made up. But now that I look at them, I’m thinking most of them are the latter, or at least doing something odd that I made up.

  • Paintings

Acrylics, watercolors—humorous, satirical, odd & oddly biographical. And sometimes simply embracing what I see in front of me, or someone I’ve known. I also just like to push paint around.
